A memoir is deeply personal — often the most personal recording a family will ever make. This policy explains what we collect, why, who helps us process it, and the control you have over it. Read it with our Terms of Service.

1. Who is responsible

Memoir (memoir.audio) is responsible for the personal information described here. Contact us any time at hello@memoir.audio.

2. What we collect

Buyer accountName, email, and (if you provide it) phone number; sign-in identity from Google or Facebook if you use them; purchase records (via Stripe — we don't see full card numbers).
Storyteller profileName, preferred name, pronouns, language, year of birth, birthplace, current location, topics to explore or avoid, sensitivities, and any photos you add.
Recordings & storiesThe audio of the conversation, transcripts, and the produced audiobook chapters. These may include personal, family, and occasionally health-related details that the storyteller chooses to share.
TechnicalBasic session diagnostics — device, browser/OS, and which step a session reached or where it failed — used to keep recording reliable. We do not use advertising trackers.

3. How we use it

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your recordings or stories to train third-party AI models.

4. Who processes it for us

We use a small set of trusted service providers strictly to run Memoir. They act on our instructions:

SupabaseSecure storage & database for recordings, transcripts, and profiles.
NetlifyWebsite & server hosting.
GitHubTemporary cloud machines that produce your finished chapter. Recordings are processed there and are not kept.
StripePayment processing.
ElevenLabsThe AI biographer voice, voice isolation, and produced audio.
OpenAISpeech-to-text transcription of recordings.
AnthropicEditing / story-shaping assistance during production.
DropboxStoring produced chapters for editing/delivery.
Google / FacebookOptional sign-in (only if you choose it).
Resend / TwilioEmail and (if enabled) SMS notifications.

5. Consent & sensitive information

Life stories can include sensitive personal information. We process it on the basis of the consent given by the buyer (confirming they may record the storyteller) and by the storyteller at the start of recording. You can withdraw consent at any time by stopping and deleting the data.

6. Sharing with family

Finished chapters can be shared through a private, unlisted listening link. Anyone who has that link can listen, so share it only with people you trust. The link is not indexed by search engines.

7. Security

Recordings and profiles are stored privately and delivered through short-lived signed links; access is scoped by per-storyteller tokens and verified sign-in. No system is perfectly secure, but we design the service so a memoir is only reachable by the people meant to have it.

8. How long we keep it

We keep a memoir for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service, unless you delete it. When you delete a storyteller, we permanently erase its recordings, transcripts, chapters, and profile (see below). We may keep minimal, non-content records (e.g. that a deletion happened, basic payment records) where required.

9. Your rights & control

Note: produced chapters copied into a family's own devices or downloads are outside our control once saved.

10. International

Our providers may process data in other countries. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for those transfers.

11. Children

Memoir is intended for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from children. If a storyteller is a minor, the memoir must be set up and consented to by a parent or guardian.

12. Changes

We'll post updates here with a new date and, for material changes, notify account holders.
